In the early 20th century in Lithuania, people with disabilities were often seen as a burden or as dependent on society. It didn’t matter if they had talent, worked hard or wanted to contribute. This is why Beatričė didn’t like being called a “blind singer.” However, that’s exactly how she was introduced before her first concert. Still, her talent shone brightly – she became one of the most famous sopranos in Lithuanian opera and recorded over 1300 songs. Now, you’re in front of her apartment turned museum. Here, you can discover not just her music but also the Braille language.
