Catherine Cornaro was the Queen of Cyprus and the wife of Peter I of Cyprus. Their marriage took place in 1382, and she became the Queen of Cyprus. Peter I and Catherine ruled the kingdom with dignity and success, strengthening Cyprus’ relations with neighboring countries and promoting the prosperity of its people. After Peter I’s death in 1392, Catherine continued to govern Cyprus as the Queen Mother for their son, James II. However, in 1398, James II removed Catherine from power and exiled her to Sicily, where she passed away at around the age of 60. Catherine Cornaro was known for her kindness and love for the people of Cyprus. Her reign marked a period of prosperity and cultural development for the Cypriot people.
