María de Maeztu

María de Maeztu was a teacher, pedagogue, headmistress, lecturer, feminist and like so many other women, she was forgotten by a history that denied her the place and recognition she deserved. As her words record, her life was destined to improve the situation of Spanish women through education, through a comprehensive education that would encourage and favour their “equal and integral” participation in the society and culture of the Spain of her time. A member of a family of thinkers and artists, she was a student teacher, a disciple of Ortega y Gasset and a scholarship holder of the Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios to complete her studies in various European countries, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and England, which greatly influenced her training and her ideas on education.
