María Telo Núñez

María Telo Núñez (Cáceres 1915-Madrid 2014) was a Spanish jurist of renowned prestige who stood out mainly for her activism in defence of democracy and the struggle for women’s equality. She received an Honorary Doctor from the University of Salamanca and was awarded the Clara Campoamor Prize. She was also a member of several national and international associations and organisations whose aims included the defence of women’s rights and her active participation in the General Codification Commission. Her legal and political work was decisive in the reform of the Civil Code in favour of women’s rights and equality. She is the author of the book “Mi lucha por la igualdad jurídica de la mujer” (My fight for women’s legal equality).
