This plaque tells us that the Lithuanian council used to operate in this building. Felicija Bortkevičienė served here as a senior secretary, but her role extended far beyond that. If we had to list all the political, cultural, and charitable organizations where she energetically organized or managed, we’d be here for quite a while. Surprisingly, she never held any official political positions. Once, there was a consideration for her to become the Minister of Provision and Public Work, but some government members had reservations about a woman holding this position, so she wasn’t chosen. Later, Felicija was nominated for the presidency of Lithuania but received only one vote.
