Santa Teresa de Jesús

Santa Teresa de Jesús (Gotarrendura, Ávila, 1515 – Alba de Tormes, 1582). Spanish religious and mystical writer, also known as Saint Teresa of Avila. Teresa de Jesús is the religious name adopted by Teresa de Cepeda y Ahumada, daughter of Alonso Sánchez de Cepeda, a probable descendant of Jewish converts, and Beatriz de Ahumada, a member of a noble family from Ávila. Her life and spiritual development can be traced through her autobiographical works, which include some of her major works: The Life (written between 1562 and 1565), the Spiritual Relations, the Book of Foundations (begun in 1573 and published in 1610) and her nearly five hundred Letters.
