For a while a young woman lived in this house. She became one of the most influential women in Lithuania between the two World Wars, and not just because she was married to the longest-serving Prime Minister. Jadvyga played a key role in founding the Lithuanian Women’s Council. She was also a writer, journalist, and diplomat. Did you know she’s the reason the Act of Independence of Lithuania became known worldwide? Jadvyga translated the Act into German and discreetly handed it to her friend, the editor of a significant newspaper. He took it to Berlin the next day and published it for the world to see!
