Did you know that the first secret service squad in Lithuania was composed entirely of women? The most courageous and determined among them was Marcelė. Some say that she held the entire safety of the young Lithuanian nation in her hands! In 1919, she played a crucial role in uncovering a secret plot to overthrow the Lithuanian government based in Kaunas at that time. The Polish secret service, annoyed by her interference, even put a 5000 zloty bounty on her, and she became known as the “woman with a fox.” Can you guess why? Till this day she is the only Lithuanian woman awarded all major Lithuanian orders.
