Two little girls used to live in this building. One of them is mentioned on this memorial plaque. Despite the turmoil of World War II, Marija Gimbutienė managed to become a world-famous archaeologist and anthropologist. She made a groundbreaking discovery, revealing that 5000 years ago, Old European communities were woman-centered, practicing peace and equality. This new view of European history inspired countless scientists and feminist artists. Her cousin Meilė Lukšienė (1913-2009) on the other hand shaped your life – she played an important role in changing the school education system in Lithuania just after independence!
