Dimitrana Ivanova (1881 – 1960) was a Bulgarian educational reformer, suffragist and women’s rights activist. She chaired the Bulgarian Women’s Union from 1926 to 1944. From 1928, she published and edited the monthly magazine “The Woman” (1929 – 1931), in which she examined the legal aspects of the subordinate status of women. Dimitrana collaborated with many newspapers on issues of women’s life and future. Throughout her life she fights for gender equality in the field of education, as well as the right of women lawyers to exercise their profession as lawyers and judges. After a long struggle, she became one of the first Bulgarian women to have this right recognized.
