Woman in arts
Dora Petrova Gabe (1888 –1983) was а Bulgarian Jewish poet, writer and translator. She published poetry for adults and children as well as travel books, short stories and essays. In her later years, she also did extensive work in translation. Forthermore, she is remembered not only as a writer but was also an activist, fighting for peace and children’s rights. She was appointed as honorary diplomat for the Peace Council and received the Golden Cross for her work around Bulgarian-Polish relations. Furthermore, she became an ‘Honorary Citizen of Tolbukhin’, today Dobrich, a city in her home region.
